What if one of the greatest strengths a man can possess has been misunderstood for generations?
Sensitive Men Rising begins with a powerful journey into the lives of men who have spent years hiding a part of themselves—not because it was broken, but because the world told them it didn’t belong.
Featuring Peter Coyote, Alanis Morissette, Luke Goss, Dr. Elaine Aron, Scott Barry Kaufman, and other remarkable voices, Episode 1 explores the science, the stories, and the extraordinary gifts of Sensory Processing Sensitivity. It reveals why millions of boys and men experience the world more deeply, and why that difference has too often been mistaken for weakness instead of strength. Through intimate conversations, moving personal stories, inspiring music, and groundbreaking research, you’ll discover that sensitivity is not something to overcome. It is a powerful human trait that can shape exceptional fathers, leaders, artists, first responders, entrepreneurs, healers, and visionaries.
This episode also honors the pioneering work of Dr. Elaine Aron and the late Dr. Ted Zeff, whose dedication has helped countless men understand themselves with greater clarity and compassion. But this film is about more than sensitivity. It is about redefining what it means to be a man. It is about raising a new generation of boys who never have to apologize for their empathy, their kindness, or the depth with which they experience the world.
Whether you are a sensitive man, love someone who is, or simply want to better understand the people around you, this is more than the beginning of a documentary. It is an invitation to join a conversation that has the power to change lives—and perhaps redefine masculinity for generations to come.
Notes
This first episode is deeply personal because it begins with a question that has stayed with me for many years. What happens when a boy—or a man—is taught to hide one of the greatest gifts he was born with?
Today, research suggests that roughly 30% of the world’s population is born with the highly sensitive trait—nearly 2.5 billion people. About half of them are men. Yet for generations, many have been told that one of their greatest natural strengths is something they should hide.
As I traveled the world interviewing psychologists, scientists, educators, artists, and extraordinary men, I came to understand something that changed me. High sensitivity is not a flaw. It is not a disorder. It is an innate trait—a remarkable part of our biology that some people are simply born with. When understood, nurtured, and developed, it can become one of humanity’s greatest strengths.
This episode is not asking us to redefine masculinity. It is inviting us to broaden our understanding of what a man can be. The men you are about to meet are courageous, resilient, compassionate, and deeply committed to serving others. They remind us that empathy is not weakness, vulnerability is not failure, and sensitivity—when guided with wisdom, character, and purpose—can become a remarkable human advantage.
I am deeply grateful to pioneers like Dr. Elaine Aron and Dr. Ted Zeff, whose groundbreaking work has helped millions better understand this extraordinary trait. My hope is simple. That every sensitive boy and every sensitive man who watches this film will stop apologizing for the way they were born. Embrace this gift. Develop it. Lead with it.
The next generation doesn’t simply need stronger men. It needs men with the wisdom and courage to use one of the greatest gifts they were ever given.
